Bayern München needed patience in yesterday's DFB-Pokal first-round match against Regionalliga Nord side Drochtersen/Assel as the German champions had to wait until the 81st minute until Robert Lewandowski finally broke the deadlock to secure a 1-0 win.

After the match, Bayern coach Niko Kovac admitted that he wasn't satisfied with the performance, but stressed that it's the progress to the next round that ultimately counts.

"It was a difficult game as cup matches can be. We didn't really want that and were warned. We were playing too slowly," Kovac told Bild and went on:

"Drochtersen/Assel showed a great fight and great passion, and I'm glad that we're still in the cup. It's the progress that counts."

Defending champions Eintracht Frankfurt and VfB Stuttgart, on the other hand, are both out of the tournament. Frankfurt lost 1-2 to SSV Ulm from the Regionalliga Südwest while Stuttgart were beaten 0-2 by 3. Liga side Rostock.
