Mario Götze completed a move to PSV Eindhoven earlier this week, joining the Dutch side on a free transfer.

Bayer Leverkusen coach Peter Bosz now claims that the 28-year-old would have liked to come to BayArena before ultimately ending up at PSV.

"He wanted to move to Leverkusen," Bosz told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, adding:

"But we already have Florian Wirtz for his position. The club have a clear intention of developing him further."

The fact that Götze signed for PSV came as a surprise for Bosz.

"Someone like Mario Götze is expected on the big football stage at a big club. PSV may be a big club, but they are playing in a smalle football country."
