Löw calls for more consistency from Julian Brandt, Jascha trains with Werder first-team

RTL reportage interviewed Bundestrainer Joachim Löw immediately after the Nationalmannschaft's 1-0 over the Czech Republic on Wednesday.

Among other topics, the 60-year-old coach expressed the hope that 24-year-old midfielder Julian Brandt would be prepared to take "the next step".

Meanwhile, Julian's younger brother Jascha trained with the Werder Bremen senior side for the first time.

Ordinarily more stoic these days, Bundestrainer Joachim Löw maintained his smile throughout an RTL interview following Wednesday's victory. A positive facial mien persisted even as the subject turned to the capricious play of midfielder Julian Brandt.

"Julian has so much ability. He needs to work on consistency," Löw told the RTL cameras, "His performances can be a bit shaky. The potential is very good and very large. When he is active, plowing forward with his skill and technique, he can be very dangerous. He needs to clear the next hurdle."

For his part, the Bremen native and former Leverkusen player declared himself "not wholly satisfied" with his actions on Wednesday evening. A mini-revival encouraged by a "hands off" manager continues at his club, but the midfielder acknowledged that he must make further progress on the national team level.

Brandt worked as a right flanker in Löw's 3-4-3 in the most recent friendly, a constellation Löw emphasized will not be used again. SV Werder Bremen trainer Florian Kohfeldt invited Julian's 17-year-old brother Jascha to train with his senior side for the first time on Thursday. The Hanseaten may be prepared to call up another talented member of the family soon.
