The guests were off to a perfect start, with Jonas Hofmann making it 1-0 from the penalty spot in the 6th minute after Breel Embolo was brought down in the box by Dayot Upamecano.
With 19 minutes played, things got even better for Gladbach when Breel Embolo's header hit Marcus Thuram and went in.
After the break, Christopher Nkunku pulled one back for Leipzig in the 57th minute after being teed up by Marcel Halstenberg before Yussuf Poulsen found the equaliser from the edge of the box with 66 minutes on the clock.
It looked like it would end with a draw until Alexander Sørloth popped up at the back post in injury time to nod the ball into the net, making it 3-2 to 'Die Roten Bullen'.
