Georgios Moissidis of Germany's preeminent footballing publication sees forthcoming movement in the case of two of the six players VfB Stuttgart wishes to offload this summer. Recent transfer transactions involving Sebastiaan Bornuaw and Benito Raman could free up the requisite cash for respective clubs interested in Philipp Klement and Erik Thommy.

New 1. FC Köln trainer Steffen Baumgart has apparently had a long-standing interest in acquiring attacking midfielder Klement, with whom he worked with during a highly prolific 2018/19 season at SC Paderborn 07. Klement scored a very respectable 18 goals during that promotion campaign.

The 28-year-old played significantly less of a role in Stuttgart's promotion season the next year and mostly appeared off the bench this year in 18 appearances for Pellegrino Matarazzo's Schwaben this year. After obtaining liquidity through the Bornauw transfer, Köln could procure Klement for €1-2 million.

Meanwhile, Schalke 04 have long been linked Thommy. After failing to generate interest shopping the 25-year-old at the beginning of last season, Matarazzo barely used the winger in 2020/21. The Umm-Native made just appearances over the course of the season. Schalke have accrued some financial leeway with the recent transfer of Raman and a reported sale of Matija Nastasic. Thommy could be available for €2-3 million.
