When Germany coach Joachim Löw and general manager Oliver Bierhoff went to 'The Best FIFA Football Awards' in London earlier this week, they wanted to use the trip to speak with Mesut Özil, Bild reports.

Bierhoff is said to have informed Özil of the visit in advance and even called the Arsenal star's agent, Erkut Sögüt.

But when Löw and Bierhoff arrived at Arsenal's training facility on Monday, they were not allowed to talk to Özil. Supposedly, Arsenal manager Unai Emery forbade that.

"We would have liked to talk to Mesut, but we have to accept that he doesn't want to talk to us right now," Oliver Bierhoff told Bild.

Instead, Löw and Bierhoff talked to Bernd Leno and Shkodran Mustafi and had lunch with former German international Per Mertesacker who is now Arsenal's academy manager.

Löw has previously said that he has been trying to contact Mesut Özil several times following the Arsenal star's decision to quit the national team, but he hasn't been able to reach him.
