Kicker Report:
Leverkusen find different Portuguese buyer for Wendell

With most of Leverkusen's incoming transfers concluded during a busy Monday, journalist Stephan von Nocks of German footballing magazine Kicker reports that confirmation of B04 defender Wendell's transfer to FC Porto should come Tuesday.

At this point, it remains unclear why the sale of Leverkusen defender "Wendell" Nascimento Borges has not been confirmed. The 28-year-old left-back, recipient of a hastily-arranged contract extension last summer, had long fulfilled a back-up role with Germany's red company team.

Wendell's new destination has been clear for several weeks, with local newspapers reporting that the Brazilian had already bid farewell to his teammates. After a whole slew of new defensive arrivals were officially announced on Monday, it would stand to reason that Simon Rolfes and die Werkself should have their departures sorted out.

Stephan von Nocks of German footballing magazine Kicker reports that the reason behind the delay concerns a new destination for Wendell. The veteran of seven Bundesliga seasons is still headed to the Portuguese Primeira, merely not to (as initially reported) Benfica Lisbon.

FC Porto are said to have swooped in with their own offer. According to von Nocks, Bayer should pocket €3-4 million from the sale.

Though Wendell's market value has plummeted significantly from its peak €25 million some three years ago, Transfermarkt still lists him as a €6.5 million player.
