Official: Wendell signs new Leverkusen deal

Bayer Leverusen have extended Wendell's contract by a further year.
Wendell has put pen to paper on a new deal with Bayer Leverkusen, committing himself to the club until 2022.

The Brazilian left-back, who joined Leverkusen from Brazilian side Gremio in 2014, has signed a one-year extension to his deal, which was due to expire next year.

"During his six years in Leverkusen, Wendell has developed into a major factor in our squad. As a full-back, he has a fundamental importance on the pitch and also identifies extremely strongly with the team and the entire club," said Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes.

"Bayer 04 is a special club for Wendell. He has had some interesting offers in the past, but has always remained loyal to us. We are glad that we can continue to rely on him," added managing director Rudi Völler.

Wendell has made 27 appearances for 'Die Werkself' this season.
