VfL Wolfsburg are set to conclude a deal to sign Luca Waldschmidt from Benfica, according to Portuguese news outlet Record.

Per the report, Waldschmidt is just 'one step away' from a return to the Bundesliga, with Wolfsburg prepared to pay €12 million to acquire the 25-year-old's services and hand him a four-year contract.

When asked about the rumors linking Waldschmidt with a switch to Volkswagen Arena on Thursday, Wolfsburg coach Mark van Bommel remained coy.

"Good players are always interesting," he replied.

Benfica paid a reported €15 million to land Waldschmidt from Freiburg last year. He has featured 43 times for Benfica with 12 goals and four assists to his name.
