Sebastian Hoeneß achieved something truly sensational last season when he led VfB Stuttgart to second place in the Bundesliga and into the Champions League.

This caught the eye of Manchester United, according to Bild, who reports that the Red Devils made an unsuccessful enquiry about the 42-year-old during the summer.

Hoeneß, who only extended his contract with Stuttgart until 2027 at the beginning of March, was "flattered" but quickly turned down the Red Devils.

In the end, Manchester held on to the much-criticized Erik ten Hag, extending his contract until 2026 in July.

Six games into the new season, Stuttgart sit in eighth place in the Bundesliga.
