Van der Vaart slams Sané: "I hope someone gives him a kick in the butt"

Rafael van der Vaart hopes someone will give Leroy Sané "a kick in the butt" to help the winger fulfil his potential.

Former Netherlands star Rafael van der Vaart has expressed his frustration at Germany and Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sané for not making the most of his talent.

"From my point of view, he only shows 20 percent of his incredible qualities," van der Vaart told ran.

"I hope he wakes up, that someone gives him a kick in the butt.

"You have to imagine what would happen if he really stepped on the gas. He's 28 years old now. I think he should have been at Kylian Mbappe's level a long time ago."

Sane is currently working on recovering from groin surgery he underwent after the European Championship.

The 28-year-old began his career with Schalke 04 before joining Manchester City in 2016.

He returned to Germany in 2020, committing himself to a contract with Bayern Munich until 2025.

In total, Sané has scored 48 goals and provided 50 assists in 175 appearances for Bayern.
