Laszlo Benes is 'surprised and somewhat disappointed' that he has slipped down the pecking order at Borussia Mönchengladbach in recent months, according to Kicker.

The 22-year-old played regularly in the first half of the season, but hasn't featured since Gladbach's 2-1 loss to Wolfsburg on December 15.

"I sat down with the coach before the winter break, and I had the impression that he saw my first half of the season very positively," Benes told Kicker.

Gladbach coach Marco Rose points out that he has a a number of central midfielders to pick from.

"Everybody is aware of the competition and the constellation in our midfield. And everybody knows that it's not that easy. It's a very comfortable situation for a coach, because we have a lot of players who are very versatile in midfield," Rose said.

In their next game, Gladbach face Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.
