Ex-Germany, Bayern Munich and 1.FC Köln star Lukas Podolski was full of praise for Lennart Karl in his recent interview with Abendzeitung.

"He has a lot going for him, he's carefree, and he has a great sense of play. I always believe it should be about performance – whether someone is 17, 18 or 25.

"It should also be about character – Does he fit into the [German national] team? Age doesn't matter in regard to that respect.

"He brings something special to the pitch; he's simply a joy to watch. Sure, he's still a bit immature, inexperienced, but that's normal.

“I was like that when I was young, too. We should be happy that we have a player like him,” the 2014 World Cup winner explained.

The 40-year-old also spoke highly of VfB Stuttgart striker Deniz Undav who continues to be consigned to a bench role under Julian Nagelsmann.

“Deniz is having a good season; he's scoring lots of goals and he also has that confidence in his game. I hope he maintains it.

“I hope that he keeps this form, helps the team in the USA, and is there for the World Cup. That's the most important thing,” he added.
