Nico Schlotterbeck has faced criticism for his performance in Germany’s 4–3 win over Switzerland after making a few uncharacteristic errors on the ball, particularly in the first half.
Addressing the BVB centre-back’s performance in an interview on the DFB website, Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann acknowledged the mistakes, but also praised how Schlotterbeck recovered to up his game.
“He was a bit unsure and unfocused on the ball in a few situations. He played a part in the sequence that led to the 0-1 for the opposition, but that’s behind us,” Nagelsmann said.
“I want the boys to try things and be brave – he won’t get a telling-off. He recovered well and defended very hard, holding his own brilliantly against the physically strong Swiss players.”
Schlotterbeck will be hoping to start again when Germany face Ghana in another friendly on Monday.
