After returning to team training on Monday, Harry Kane has been named in Bayern Munich’s squad for the first-leg Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid in Spain on Tuesday.

Ahead of the trip, Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl spoke to the media about Kane’s situation.

“He has done everything to be part of it and participated in the final training session,” Eberl said.

“Whether ‘Vinny’ [Kompany] plays him or not is his decision. But he is with the squad, and that gives a good feeling.”

“We can travel there with confidence”

Eberl also shared his thoughts on the big game ahead.

“Real Madrid vs. FC Bayern carries a special intensity. These are the two teams with the most wins in the Champions League, including the European Cup,” he said.

Bayern have not won any of their last eight Champions League games against the 15-time European champions, but Eberl believes there is a genuine opportunity to change that.

“The boys have put themselves in a position where we can travel there with confidence, alongside the humility that the Bernabéu and our opponent always demand. We are looking forward to it, with a healthy sense of tension.

“It’s about simply doing what we can – and we can do a lot. We’ve earned that trust.”
