Report: Bayern and Manchester United emerge as front-runners to sign Denis Zakaria

Bayern München and Manchester United are understood to be leading the race for the signature of Gladbach's Denis Zakaria.
Bayern München and Manchester United are currently seen as front-runners in the chase for Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria, according to Sky Germany.

Bayern may look to bring in a new defensive midfielder in the summer as Corentin Tolisso and Javi Martinez could leave the club at the end of the season.

Thiago Alcantara's future at Allianz Arena is unclear as well, with talks over a new deal beyond 2021 expected to intensify over the next few months.

Zakaria has also been linked with a number of other clubs, including Atlético Madrid, Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund as well as Manchester United, with the 'The Red Devils' appearing to be leading the race for the 23-year-old's signature along with Bayern at the moment, as per Sky.

Meanwhile, Gladbach are still hoping to convince the Swiss international to stay for at least another year.

"I think that there is a very good chance that Denis will still be with us next year if we qualify for the Champions League," Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl recently said.

Zakaria, who is under contract until 2022, has made 30 appearances this season, racking up two goals and two assists.
