When Josip Stanišić picked up a knock early in the second half of Bayern Munich's 3-1 Champions League win over Chelsea, head coach Vincent Kompany reacted by bringing on Sacha Boey in his place.

And Boey, who has faced criticism for his injury-riddled time at Bayern so far, made a strong impression on Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund with his performance.

“He came in cold, won practically every duel and played a really good game going forward as well,” Freund told reporters after the game.

“I’m just extremely happy for him. His time here hasn’t been easy up to now, he’s been injured a lot, didn’t have an easy time, but I’m just really happy for him. Everyone was very, very happy today,” he added.

Boey joined Bayern from Galatasaray for a reported fee of €30 million in January 2024.

Since then, he has featured 29 times, scoring once and providing five assists.
