Bochum climbed into the top half of 2. Bundesliga after a 2-0 win over leaders Schalke. Gerrit Holtmann provided the assists for both goals with incisive play from the left flank.

The hosts took the lead inside the first minute with Koji Miyoshi's maiden goal of the season in a rare start for the Japanese attacker. Philipp Hofmann extended Bochum's lead on the stroke of half-time.

Miron Muslic brought Edin Džeko at the start of the second half as the legendary striker accepted the same mission to his debut last week. The 39-year-old helped Schalke to came from two-goal behind against Kaiserslautern, but he was unfortunate this time around.

Kenan Karaman's goal was ruled out because of a handball from Džeko in the 77th minute. Schalke were dominant in the closing stage of the game once again, but it wasn't enough to force another comeback in the end.

Schalke are now winless in four games, and both Darmstadt and Paderborn will go above them if they win their respective matches on Sunday. Bochum ended a four-game streak of draws as the three points put them in eighth place.
