Deniz Undav addressed his critics with a “talking hand” gesture after coming off the bench to score in Stuttgart’s 3-0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach on Sunday.
Speaking to Sky after the game, the German international expressed frustration over the criticism he had faced ahead of the match after failing to score in his previous two games.
“It was only two games. But all these people talked as if I hadn’t scored in twelve to fifteen games. For me, it was liberating to say: ‘Hey, what are you all talking about?’ Name me a striker who scores in every single game,” Undav said.
In a separate interview with DAZN, he commented:
“I’m always the worst striker if I don’t score in two games. It’s just annoying. That’s why I wanted to hint that people should just shut up.”
The 29-year-old took his season tally to 13 with his goal at the weekend.
