Daniel Bauer applauds Wolfsburg’s reaction despite another defeat in Köln

Wolfsburg’s poor start to the new year continues as they lost to Köln on Friday. The only goal of the game was scored by Linton Maina in the first half. Daniel Bauer’s side improved after the break, but it wasn’t enough to bring them back into the game.

“The result hurts. Based on the second half, I think we'd have deserved at least a point,” said Bauer after the game. “We were aware that there would be phases in which we would have to do a lot of defending. In some moments, we didn’t manage that well.

“But the reaction from the lads in the second half was very good. They invested an enormous amount and left everything out on the pitch. Unfortunately, we didn’t take advantage of the many, many chances we had.”

Wolfsburg are in real danger of slipping into the drop zone if results don’t go their way in the next few weeks. They’ll host second-placed Borussia Dortmund on matchday 21.
