The German Football Association has confirmed that Manuel Neuer has been suspended for two DFB-Pokal matches.

Neuer was sent off for the first time in his career on Tuesday when he charged out of his goal and knocked down Jeremie Frimpong in Bayern's 1-0 DFB-Pokal defeat to Bayer Leverkusen.

As the ban only applies to the DFB-Pokal, it won't have any effect on the current season.

Should Neuer extend his contract beyond 2025, he won't be able to play in the DFB-Pokal until the quarter-finals next season.

Following the sending off, Neuer took the blame for Bayern's defeat to Leverkusen in both post-match interviews and on social media.

“That’s tough ... Unfortunately I came too late in the situation in which I tried to help. After the red card, it was of course extremely difficult for the boys with one man down, but they really tried everything. I’m sorry," he wrote in an Instagram post.
