After a strong start to life at Borussia Mönchengladbach following his summer move from VfL Bochum, Kevin Stöger has slipped down the pecking order and last started a Bundesliga game in early October.

It's natural for Stöger to want to prove himself when given the chance off the bench, but according to Gladbach managing director for sport Roland Virkus, the midfielder is trying a little too hard.

"Kevin always tries to take big risks. Sometimes he plays with too much risk," Virkus told Kicker.

"When he plays simply, he's immensely important. But it's difficult when you come out of a phase like that. You want to show yourself," he added.

Although Stöger is going through a difficult time at the moment, Virkus is confident that the 31-year-old will be able to bounce back.

“Kevin will get through it. He's a good footballer and intelligent enough to draw the right conclusions.”
