Gladbach to extend with Sippel and loan out Olschowsky

Speaking to the local "Rheinische Post" newspaper, BMG sporting director Roland Virkus revealed Gladbach's plans for the goalkeeping section of the roster this summer.

Borussia Mönchengladbach plan to extend the expiring contract of veteran keeper Tobais Sippel and loan-out goalkeeping prospect Jan Jakob Olschowsky this coming summer. This was revealed by BMG sporting director Roland Virkus in an interview published yesterday in North Rhine-Westphalia's "Rheinische Post". The 36-year-old Sippel will serve as the #3 net-minder behind captain Jonas Omlin and this season's surprise starter Moritz Nicolas.

Virkus made clear that he and his staff had not given up on the developmental prospects of Olschowsky. The 22-year-old has made over 80 appearances for the Gladbach reserves and also represented Germany at the U20 level and below. The foals have been known to seek a long-term loan locale for their promising youngster. A potential two-year-stint with a German club isn't out of the question.

"It makes no sense to have Jan Olschowsky serve as number two or number three again," Virkus explained in the interview, "The lad needs games at a high level after racking up of 80 deployments for the reserves."
