In the aftermath of Borussia Dortmund's 8-1 friendly win over Sportfreunde Siegen, Niko Kovač gave insights into his squad planning.

Sky journalist Patrick Berger, often reliable when discussing BVB, noted the unlikelihood of signing a holding midfielder this summer.

“We are looking and observing everything, but if you are interested - we are not looking [for a player] in this position,” Kovač said.

Regarding the captain and vice-captain trio of Emre Can, Julian Brandt and Nico Schlotterbeck, the 53-year-old feels unmoved.

“It stays as it is. There are no reasons to change anything. I am satisfied with the choice my predecessors made,” he explained.

Can, now 31-years-old, has been captain of Die Schwarzgelben since late July 2023 where he took over the armband from Marco Reus.
