Gladbach updates: Wolf completes MLS switch, Olschowsky shopped for long-term loan
Borussia Mönchengladbach and New York City Football Club of America's MLS have both confirmed a move across the pond for Austrian attacker Hannes Wolf.
In other Gladbach-related transfer news, German journalist Oliver Bitter of Germany's Kicker Magazine reports that back-up keeper Jan Olschowsky appears set for a long-term loan out.
Following the promotion of Japanese striker Shio Fukuda to the professional squad earlier in the evening, there was more transfer news on the Borussia Mönchengladbach front. An outgoing transfer rumored to be in the works for some days was also officially confirmed. Austrian attacker Hannes Wolf has departed German football for America's MLS.
In other Gladbach-related transfer news, German journalist Oliver Bitter of Germany's Kicker Magazine reports that back-up keeper Jan Olschowsky appears set for a long-term loan out.
Wolf's contract with the West Prussian foals was terminated by mutual consent so as to allow the 24-year-old to join the CFG New Yorkers on a free. In a statement accompanying the news, BMG sporting executive Roland Virkus noted that "injuries and various other factors" had precluded Wolf from "playing the role at Gladbach that both parties would have liked".
German journalist Oliver Bitter of Germany's Kicker Magazine reports that Gladbach are preparing to part company with another player who has not played the hoped-for role in the team. Once considered the BMG keeper of the future, twenty-two year old Jan Olschowsky received a lucrative contract extension last year after making four starts under previous BMG trainer Daniel Farke.
Under new trainer Gerardo Seoane, however, Olschowsky has slipped to third place on the depth chart. Seoane preferred to turn to 26-year-old Moritz Nicolas after #1 Jonas Omlin succumbed to injury early this season. Nicolas has played all 15 league and both cup fixtures since Omlin underwent shoulder surgery. Olschowsky hasn't logged a single minute.
Bitter claims that the Gladbach administrative team seek a long-term loan locale in which to park Olschowsky. An 18-month or even two-year stint elsewhere may be in the cards for the Gladbach academy man. The Westphalian club currently carries four keepers, though veteran Tobias Sippel will almost surely depart on an expiring contract this summer.
