Julian Schuster sees room for improvement despite Freiburg’s comfortable win in his 100th game

While the injury-time strike from Australian striker Garang Kuol could've changed matters late for Jablonec, SC Freiburg were comfortable for the most part in their first league phase fixture of the UEFA Europa Conference League. Meanwhile, Julian Schuster reached 100 games in charge of the club from Breisgau.

“The opponent had few opportunities, but then simply scored too many goals,” Schuster instead focused on the negatives after the game that extended the unbeaten start of the season for the surprise Bundesliga leaders. “Two are definitely too many.”

However, the 41-year-old also sees the positives from the way his team let their opponents from Czechia into the game. “It's perhaps a good thing that we experienced this. It's the details that matter because we also want to use these games to improve."

After Vincenzo Grifo scored a direct free-kick and initiated an own-goal, fellow experienced midfielder Maximilian Eggestein extended his scoring run to four goals in five matches. The former Germany youth international also believes they didn't play their best game, though.

“It was very inconsistent. We had phases in the game where we simply didn't play well. We need to talk about that." said the 29-year-old central midfielder. Freiburg next face high-profile back-to-back away games with trips to Leverkusen and Monaco before hosting FC Bayern on matchday 7.
