Kicker Report: Roma decline purchase option on Azmoun

Stephan van Nocks - the Leverkusen correspondent for Germany's preeminent footballing publication - reports that AS Roma have declined to exercise the purchase option on Iranian striker Sardar Azmoun.

With the 29-year-old not having a sporting future with Germany's red company team, van Nocks notes that Bayer are having problems finding a new locale for him.

German footballing journalist Stephan van Nocks reports that AS Roma have declined to exercise the purchase option on the loan deal that sent Leverkusen striker Sardar Azmoun to Italy early last season. The 29-year-old remains under contract with Germany's red company team through 2027, but appears to have no sporting future with the German champions. Azmoun scored three goals and registered four assists whilst on loan in the Serie A.

Leverkusen - per van Nocks - wish to part company with Azmoun permanently, yet are having difficulty finding a taker for the 83-times-capped Iranian international. La Liga's FC Sevilla are reportedly interested only in taking Azmoun on loan. Recently installed Feherbahçe head-coach Jose Mourinho may potentially be interested. It nevertheless remains questionable as to whether Azmoun constitutes a big enough name for the Mourinho project.
