FSV Mainz 05 have initiated talks in order to retain the services of Stefan Posch, according to Sky Germany's sources.

With the Austrian's loan coming to an end in June and currently no option to buy, Mainz are hoping to change that outcome.

The 29-year-old enjoyed a strong second half of the season and impressed to the point where the Bundesliga club wants to keep him.

However, Posch's contract at Serie A outfit Como runs until 2029, meaning they hold the power should negotiations break out.

Furthermore, there have been several enquiries from other unnamed clubs, while staying put at Como is also conceivable.

Since joining in late January, the central defender has played over 1,395 minutes while helping to keep three clean sheets.
