Newcastle United are stepping up their efforts in their bid to sign Edmond Tapsoba, according to the latest rumours emanating out of England.

As the Mirror reports, the Magpies are offering Bayer Leverkusen the equivalent of just under €58 million for the Burkina Faso native.

Newcastle have been interested in the central defender for some time, who is with Bayer Leverkusen until 2028.

Tottenham Hotspur are also said to be interested. It remains to be seen whether Die Werkself are willing to negotiate a sale.

With the departures of Jonathan Tah, Odilon Kossounou and Jeremie Frimpong; Leverkusen may be reluctant to sell.

However the 51-cap international defender supposedly has a €95million release clause which would lead to another huge cash influx.
