“I don’t know why he always scores against us!” - Atubolu about Demirović

SC Freiburg goalkeeper Noah Atubolu was left frustrated after his side fell to a narrow defeat against VfB Stuttgart, admitting it was hard to accept conceding late after largely sticking to the game plan.
The 23-year-old once again found himself on the losing side against Stuttgart - and against Ermedin Demirović in particular. “I don’t know why he always scores against us,” Atubolu said with a wry smile. “He scored for us before, now against us. He’s just doing his job, and today he did it very well.”
Despite the disappointment, Atubolu was keen to highlight Freiburg’s overall performance. “We had a clear match plan today, and for a long time it almost worked perfectly. Then we concede again at the end - that’s something you simply can’t allow to happen,” he explained. “It’s a shame, because as a team we showed a very good performance.”
Atubolu himself was one of Freiburg’s standout performers, keeping his side in the game with several outstanding saves. In the end, however, even his efforts were not enough to prevent Demirović’s moment of magic from deciding the contest.
