Lucas Hernandez: "I'm not thinking about my future yet"

With two and a half years left on his current contract with Bayern München, Lucas Hernandez isn't ready to discuss his long-term future.
Bayern München defender Lucas Hernandez is not yet thinking about whether to extend his contract, which expires in 2024.

"I'm only halfway through my contract, so there's still plenty of time for me to exchange ideas with the club. I'm not thinking about the future yet. The fact is that I'm happy here and I thank the club for everything it has done for me," Hernandez told Kicker.

The 25-year-old has nailed down a regular starting berth at Bayern after fighting his way back from the injuries that plagued him following his €80 million transfer from Atlético Madrid in 2019.

"They weren't easy years. The first season and a half I was injured, that was definitely the worst time of my career, very complicated," said Hernandez.

But although his time at Bayern has been difficult at times, Hernandez claims he never thought about leaving.

"Not even in the difficult moments," he underlined.

"My goal was always to find my place. That's why I had signed here."
