Bayern boss gives squad update amid COVID-19 chaos: "It looks like we will play"

Speaking to DPA on Wednesday, Bayern boss Hasan Salihamidzic said he expects Friday's game against Gladbach to take place as planned despite the growing number of COVID-19 cases.
Bayern München board member for sport Hasan Salihamidzic has given a squad update amid a COVID-19 outbreak that has seen a number of players test positive.

The German champions most recently announced that Alphonso Davies has returned a positive test, meaning that they now have nine players in quarantine.

As a result of this, Bayern have asked the The German Football League (DFL) about the possibility of postponing their Bundesliga clash with Gladbach on Friday.

Speaking before Davies' positive test was announced, Salihamidzic told DPA:

"We currently have 10 outfield players and two goalkeepers. That's why we are thinking about how we can play the game and have discussed the situation with the DFL."

If Bayern don't have at least 15 eligible players, including nine outfield players from the first team and one goalkeeper, the game could be postponed.

"There is a set of rules for this, which we will adhere to like everyone else," said Salihamidzic.

"It looks like we will play. If so, we will go into the game to win it," he added.

With regard to Leon Goretzka and Niklas Süle, who both missed training today, Salihamidzic said:

"Goretzka hasn't played for five weeks. With Süle, we also don't know if he can play. He has back problems."
