Bayern München slipped to a rare defeat as they were beaten 4-2 by VfL Bochum at the Ruhrstadion on Saturday afternoon.

Initially, It looked like business as usual for Bayern, with Robert Lewandowski scrambling the ball over the line in the ninth minute to give the guests an early lead.

But Bochum struck back five minutes later as Christopher Antwi-Adjei bent the ball around Sven Ulreich, who was deputizing for the injured Manuel Neuer.

The home side took the lead for the first time in the 37th minute as Jürgen Locadia scored from the penalty spot after Dayot Upamecano was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box.

Spurred on by Locadia's goal, Bochum then went on to score two more times before the break, with Christian Gamboa and Gerrit Holtmann both finding the net to give Bochum a sensational 4-1 win lead at half-time.

Although Bochum kept creating opportunities, they didn't manage to add further to the scoreline after the break.

At the other end of the pitch, Lewandowski grabbed a second for Bayern in the 75th minute, giving Bayern a bit of hope.

The Polish international nearly sealed his hat-trick around 10 minutes later, but his beautifully struck free kick only hit the woodwork, and Bochum held on to their lead.

Bayern's loss gives second-placed Borussia Dortmund the chance to narrow the gap to the league leaders to six points when they face Union Berlin tomorrow.
