Following Arjen Robben's announcement that he will leave Bayern München at the end of the season, his former club FC Groningen dream of bringing the 34-year-old back.

The Dutch Eredivisie club's managing director, Hans Nijland, has already been in contact with Robben, but knows it will be difficult to bring back the Bayern star.

"It would be the ultimate dream if he ended his career at FC Groningen," Nijland told Dagblad Noorden.

"We've had contact. Arjen's father, Hans, informed me about the decision to leave Bayern on Sunday afternoon," Nijland said and added that he sent Arjen Robben a text on Monday morning.

"But we're down to earth and know our place. We're talking about one of the best footballers in the world. I think it would be really great if Arjen could do something for the club in the future in any way," the Groningen boss said.

Robben, who spent two seasons at Groningen from 2000 to 2002 after coming through the youth ranks at the club, has also been linked with another former club of his - PSV Eindhoven.
