Greece's "Sport24" reports that Gladbach have sent in-person scouts to monitor the 26-year-old's form at his Greek club. The 26-year-old journeyman, who has represented the Vancouver Whitecaps of America's MLS and Russia's Rubin Kazan during his ten-year-career, was once loosely linked with Gladbach and FC Augsburg when the Russian invasion of Ukraine last spring allowed him to void his RPL contact. The 37-times-capped international instead went back to FC Seoul before joining Olympiakos.
The Greek broadcaster also states that TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and SC Freiburg are interested in acquiring Hwang, but only after the season. At Olympiakos, Hwang is widely regarded to have recaptured some of the form that so impressed observers during his service with South Korea at the 2019 Asian Continental Championship. He's been directly involved in three goals in 16 appearances for Piraeus this season. His current estimated market value is at a career €3.5 million high in the current transfermarkt listings.
