Reports: Hertha front office fights through transfer collapses and attempted Lukebakio swoop

Germany's main sporting tabloid reports that Hertha BSC's new personnel team are struggling mightily with getting deals done.

Per the newspaper, at least three transfers have fallen through today. The Hertha front office are now pursuing two new targets.

Belgian reporter Sacha Tavolieri also claims that the nascent team is beating back offers from PSV Eindhoven for Dodi Lukebakio.

Installed just yesterday, new Hertha BSC sporting director Benjamin Weber and his team are - according to Germany's "Sport Bild" - seeing deals collapse left and right. After the front office's first reported upon target Maximilian Philipp signed with SV Werder Bremen earlier in the day, a deal to bring in French winger Gauthier Hein apparently fell through despite the fact that the Auxerre attacker passed a medical.

The German tabloid also reports that Hertha have officially broken off attempts to acquire Danish defender Jannik Vestergaard for cost reasons. Another transfer of an unnamed player is also reported. Weber and squad planner Dirk Dufner are now said to be pursuing former Union Berlin and current Borussia Mönchengladbach defender Marvin Friedrich; a January 2022 transfer dissatisfied with his place with the foals.

Congolese winger Théo Bongonda of Spanish side Cadiz is also reported to be on "die alte Dame's" wish list. The former K.R.C. Genk attacker recently returned to Spain this past summer and has been floating in and out of head-coach Sergio Gonzalez's starting XI. Bongonda maintains an estimated market worth of €4 million in the latest transfermarkt listings.

As much in disarray as the nascent new front office team may find itself, at least one source claims that the new crew are holding their ground on PSV Eindhoven's attempts to ply Dodi Lukebakio away from the squad. Sacha Tavolieri reports that lucrative offers in the €10 million (bonuses inclusive) range have been rejected by Weber and staff as they attempt to keep a competitive roster together.
