Having suited up for Antonio di Salvo DFB-Juniors as recently as November, Hertha BSC academy man Lazar Samardzic will represent Serbia in the upcoming European qualifiers in late march. The 21-year-old netted nine goals for various German youth levels, including two for the Germany U21s. Samardzic is of Bosnian-Serb descent.

Samardzic confirmed that he was weighing a switch when speaking to "Spox" and "Goal" in late September. With his 21st birthday approaching, the player noted that he was considering changing his allegiance. The former Hertha, Leipzig, and current Udinese professional maintained at the time hthat he was "still focused on the DFB."

In his last appearance in DFB dress, Samardzic scored in the German U21 squad's 4-2 win over Italy on November 19th. Samardzic has found some success since Leipzig sold him to his current Serie A side. A total of six goals and four assists in the last two seasons have pushed his estimated market worth up to €4.5 million in the latest transfermarkt listings.
