Bremen trio, plus Veljkovic, ruled out ahead of Gladbach
After a short training week, SV Werder Bremen head-coach Ole Werner confirmed that a trio he had to do without last Sunday against Leverkusen would remain out for tomorrow night's fixture against Gladbach.
Werner will also have to find a solution for missing central defender Milos Veljkovic. In a spot of better news, attacker Romano Schmid looks to have recovered from his own bout of illness in time to face the foals.

Werner confirmed that all three hadn't been able to recover from their illness in time to put in enough work on the training pitch during the short week. It thus looks to be the case that young Bulgarian Ilia Gruev will once again take over Groß' role at the sweeper position. Bittencourt's absence shouldn't matter much as Werner can call upon Mitchell Weiser and Anthony Jung as his wingback's.
It remains unclear who might replace Friedl as the player who did so against die Werkself, Milos Veljkovic, won't be available. The club confirmed this news on its social media feed on Thursday without giving any specifics as to why. Werner may call upon youngster Fabio Chiarodia, or possibly young Englishman Lee Buchanan, to fill in within the back-three.
There was some good news to report with regard to player availability for the Hanseaten. Austrian attacker Romano Schmid, recovering from illness himself, was able to partake in the squad's final pre-match training session. The 23-year-old, who can play in midfield, on the wings, and as a buttressing attacker, has recently suffered numerous setbacks during his own comeback from injury.
