Kovac on new Nmecha injury setback: "He's understandably not doing well personally."
VfL Wolfsburg trainer Niko Kovac addressed Lukas Nmecha's latest injury setback at his Friday presser.
Whilst conveying the unfortunate news that continued problems with his knee would continue to sideline German striker Lukas Nmecha for both club and country, VfL Wolfsburg trainer Niko Kovac admitted that the 24-year-old was not taking the news well. Kovac revealed that Nmecha had been working through a lot of pain as he sought to achieve his long-term goal of a comeback.
"It's not of any use that he keeps working through the pain," Kovac said, "We must be considerate of the player and take his psychological situation into account. It's understandable that he's not doing well personally because he keeps having problems. He's very dissatisfied with the situation."
Kovac revealed that he had a personal discussion with Nmecha yesterday. Kovac divulged that the attacker was in need of something of an uplifting pep talk. Though the VfL trainer didn't give any sort of specific timetable for the player's return, it looks to be the case that the team medical staff are prepared to give matters another shot in approximately four weeks' time.
"I said to him yesterday: if he plays twelve more years, he has 144 months left as a footballer," Kovac noted, "If we subtract one month, it's 143. He'll still be playing a lot of football. It's a process that will take some time. It's about fitness. There will come a time when he's fit again."
