Hainer backs Nagelsmann despite Leverkusen defeat

Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer has thrown his full support behind head coach Julian Nagelsmann following Sunday's disappointing 2-1 loss to Bayer Leverkusen.
Bayern Munich are no longer at the top of the Bundesliga table as the German champions failed to regain the lead from Borussia Dortmund on Sunday, losing 2-1 to Bayer Leverkusen.

Despite the setback, Bayern president Herbert Hainer remains convinced that Julian Nagelsmann is the right man for the job.

"I think Julian has come a long way. He is a top coach who proved against Paris that he is tactically and strategically excellent at the highest European level," Hainer said in an interview with Kicker.

Having signed a five-year contract in 2021, Nagelsmann is the "perfect fit" for Bayern, according to Hainer.

"We are planning for the long term with him, we have documented this with a five-year contract, because we want to build something with him," Hainer stressed, adding:

"You can see clear progress in these one and a half years. Julian is doing very well. The discussion about his coaching came from outside, we didn't start it."
