Kicker Report: Mavropanos' exit clause is double the defender's estimated worth
Assuming that VfB Stuttgart manage to avoid relegation, Greek defender Konstantinos Mavropanos might find it difficult to find his way out of Swabia.
The latest information on the status of Stuttgart transfer commodity Konstantinos Mavropanos, according to Germany's Kicker Magazine, is that the Greek international's exit-clause in his current contract is approximately double that of his estimated market worth. The 25-year-old can get out of his current deal for a reported €30 million.
At present, Mavropanos is considered worth half that. The main German side interested in his services - Eintracht Frankfurt - have reportedly tendered an offer in accordance with this and will presumably find it difficult to be persuaded to shell out more. It thus looks like, if Mavropanos is to be picked up by another club, it will likely be one of the richer Premiership sides on the Isle.
Mavropanos has been linked with Wolves. Atletico and Inter have also been rumored to be interested. Signs nevertheless point to a stay in Swabia if the BaWü club manages to avoid relegation. Kicker does note that the exit-clause only applies to top flight football. Stuttgart will almost certainly need to cash in on Mavropanos in the event of relegation.
Stuttgart are currently in 15th place on 28 points in the Bundesliga table with four matchdays remaining. The VfB are just above the relegation playoff place, currently occupied by VfL Bochum, on goal-differential. Sebastian Hoeneß' side face relegation rivals Hertha BSC this coming weekend.
