Confirmed: Argentine club pulls purchase option on Hertha's Ascacibar
Argentine club Estudiantes de La Plata confirmed that they had pulled the purchase option on Hertha loan-out Santiago Ascacibar early Friday afternoon.
Ahead of a potential relegation tomorrow, there was at least some good news for the German capital's Charlottenburg side on Friday evening. An undisclosed amount of money will flow into Hertha BSC's coffers after Argentine club Estudiantes de La Plata confirmed that they had pulled the purchase option on Hertha loanee Santiago Ascacibar.
Reports on the amount of money Hertha will receive for the €6.5-million-valued player vary. Germany's "Sport Bild" tabloid reports that the purchase clause totals €3 million whilst Argentina's "TyC Sports" puts the figure closer to €2.3 million. In any event, Hertha are finally rid of a transfer bust that once cost them €10 million during Jürgen Klinsmann's ill-fated January 2020 spending spree.
Ascacibar managed one goal and two assists in 53 competitive appearances for Hertha. He contested a total of 125 German football matches in a six-year-career in the Bundesrepublik that also featured a stint with VfB Stuttgart. The thrice-capped Argentine international was known for having disciplinary issues and was once suspended for six games after spitting in Kai Havertz's face whilst playing for Stuttgart in 2019.
