In this article, we take a look at the midfielders you should have on your radar when you put together your squad.
Merlin Röhl (Freiburg, 3M)
With Nicolas Höfler suspended for Freiburg's opener, Merlin Röhl and Yannik Keitel are competing to start alongside Maximilian Eggestein in the middle of the park. Having started in the DFB-Pokal win over Oberachern, Röhl currently seems to be ahead of Keitel in the pecking order. Unfortunately, the 21-year-old was taken off in the second half after picking up a knock, but is expected to be fit for the match against Hoffenheim.
Julian Justvan (Hoffenheim, 4M)
Hoffenheim's new signing from Paderborn is widely tipped to start at left wing-back, filling the void left by Angelino. It was a surprise that he didn't start in the 4-1 DFB-Pokal win over VfB Lübeck, but he impressed after coming on and even got on the scoresheet. It looks like Justvan will be Hoffenheim's preferred crossing free-kick and corner taker, which alone should earn him plenty of points.
Nathan Ngoumou (Gladbach, 6M)
Ngoumou is expected to play a key role for Gladbach this season following the departures of Jonas Hofmann and Lars Stindl. The 23-year-old Frenchman has had a very promising pre-season and has a great opening match against Augsburg, who crashed out of the DFB-Pokal against 3. Liga side Unterhaching on Sunday.
Vaclav Cerny (Wolfsburg, 7.2M – on sale)
Cerny has joined Wolfsburg after a sensational Eredivisie campaign for Twente in which he scored 13 goals and laid on 11 assists in 32 matches. He is now set to start on the wing at home against newly-promoted Heidenheim and is even on sale this week.
Enzo Millot (Stuttgart, 8M)
After emerging as a key player for Stuttgart last season, the young attacking midfielder is looking to continue his development this season. With Stuttgart kicking off the season at home against a Bochum side, who were knocked out of the cup by 3. Liga side Arminia Bielefeld on Saturday, he could be a great differential to have.
Marcel Sabitzer (Dortmund, 9.9M – on sale)
For some reason, things never took off for Sabitzer at Bayern, who opted to sell him to rivals Borussia Dortmund over the summer. So far, the former RB Leipzig captain has looked more like his old self at BVB, impressing in the number eight role during pre-season. On sale for 9.9 million, the 29-year-old is a fairly cheap route into the Dortmund midfield, and a safe one too, as he looks like a nailed down starter from the start of the season.
Florian Wirtz (Leverkusen, 14M)
After being eased back from a cruciate ligament rupture last season, Wirtz should be back to full speed by this point. The fact that he has been handed the number 10 shirt at Leverkusen is another indication of what is expected of the 20-year-old, who is widely regarded as one of Germany's brightest prospects.
Vincenzo Grifo (Freiburg, 15M)
Freiburg's attacking talisman, Grifo is responsible for all set pieces, including penalties, and is coming off his most productive campaign ever in the Bundesliga, in which he scored 15 goals and provided five assists.
Jamal Musiala (Bayern, 15M)
Having been moved from attack to midfield in the Fantasy Bundesliga game, Musiala is hard to ignore. The 20-year-old should be a safe starter for Bayern, and racked up 12 goals and 13 assists in the league last season even if he wasn't playing up to his best in the second half of the campaign.
