Julian Weigl to leave Dortmund in the summer?

Julian Weigl is set to leave Borussia Dortmund this summer.
It's looking more and more likely that Julian Weigl will say goodbye to Borussia Dortmund in the summer.

According to Bild, the 23-year-old wants to leave in the search for more first-team action.

Following Dortmund's summer signing of Axel Witsel, Weigl has hardly played in his preferred position in the defensive midfield.

He played regularly as a central defender during January and February while Manuel Akanji was out with an injury, but has had to settle for the bench once again after the Swiss international has returned to action.

Most recently, Weigl started on the bench for Saturday's 0-5 defeat against Bayern München before replacing Dan-Axel Zagadou at the break.

The most likely destination for Weigl is Paris Saint-Germain where he would get to play under his former coach Thomas Tuchel.

PSG already wanted to sign Weigl in January, and the midfielder was open to a move to the French capital, but BVB didn't want to let him go at the time.

"When Paris showed an interest in me before the second half of the season, I naturally thought about my future. I wanted to improve my sporting situation. And that I can work well under Thomas Tuchel is no secret," Weigl told Sport Bild in January.

"I had to accept that those responsible didn't want to let me go," he said.

Weigl has made 18 appearances for Dortmund this season.
