At the age of 23, Joshua Kimmich is the main right-back for both the German national team and Bayern München just like the legendary Philipp Lahm used to be.
But although there are obvious parallels to draw between the two, Kimmich underlines that he wants to make a name for himself.
"He (Lahm) shaped the position for years. When he stopped, he was the captain and the absolute leader. At the age of 23, I don't want to copy him. I want to be Joshua Kimmich and not a second Philipp Lahm," Kimmich said at a press conference today.
Kimmich, who is known to be a right-back that likes to go forward and participate in the offensive play, also talked about finding the right balance in his position.
"First and foremost, I am a right-back. That's my primary task. It's important to find the right balance. Despite being a lot in ball possession, you must not forget that you have to defend," he said.
Kimmich is set to feature in the right-back position when Germany take on Mexico on Sunday. You can find our preview for the game HERE.
