Julian Draxler: 'My dad was definitely demanding'

Julian Draxler reveals his 'demanding' dad pushed him to become a better player when he was a youngster.
Julian Draxler says he's grateful to his 'demanding' dad for pushing him to constantly improve when he was a youngster.

The 26-year-old came through the youth ranks at Schalke 04 before moving on to Wolfsburg and Paris Saint-Germain and has made 51 appearances for the German national team, scoring six times.

And although Draxler admits that he sometimes found it hard to cope with his father's criticism and high demands when he was younger, the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder feels he has a lot to thank him for.

"He never said I had to make it, but he pushed me very hard in that direction. If we lost or I played badly, the weekend was ruined for the whole family, because my dad would be angry and criticize me a lot," Draxler said in an interview with Spox and DAZN and added:

"Sometimes, I didn't find my performances as bad as he did. He then made it clear to me that I wasn't doing enough. My dad was definitely demanding. In retrospect, I'm incredibly grateful to him because it made me develop a sense of determination that I maybe wouldn't have had otherwise."

Draxler has played six games for PSG so far this season, making two assists.
