Oscar Wendt not thinking about retirement
Oscar Wendt says he would like to spend the rest of his career at Gladbach, but underlines he isn't thinking about hanging up his boots anytime soon.
Borussia Mönchengladbach's Oscar Wendt says he plans to keep playing for a few more years at least.
At the age of 34, the experienced left-back isn't thinking about retiring from football at all.
"My hunger is as big as it was 15 years ago. I feel a fire burning inside me. The fact that I'm 34 years old doesn't mean that I should sit on the bench or retire. In the end, it's always about how your perform. I know that I can still help the team. And as long as I have that feeling, I want to keep playing," Wendt told Kicker and added:
"I don't want to retire at 34. I feel fit, so it's definitely too early. I still think I'm capable of playing for two or three more years. At least."
Ideally, Wendt would like to keep playing for Gladbach until the end of his career.
"Ending my career in Gladbach would be my dream scenario. It's very, very hard for me to imagine joining another Bundesliga club. My gut feeling tells me that I will either be spending the rest of my career at Gladbach or go back to Sweden to spend the last years of my career there," Wendt said and added that he could see himself returning to his former club IFK Göteborg in Sweden.
Wendt's current contract with Gladbach expires at the end of the season.
