Borussia Dortmund captain Marco Reus is set to return to match action in a friendly against Sparta Rotterdam on Monday.

After missing most of the second half of last season due to muscle problems, the 31-year-old has been making steady progress in his recovery in recent weeks.

"Marco has trained very well over the last two or three weeks and is making a positive impression. He radiates an incredible amount of joy. He will play on Monday," Dortmund boss Sebastian Kehl told DPA.

"We all suffered with him. Now he's in really good shape again. We are delighted that our captain is back and hope that he will remain stable in the long term," Kehl added.

Reus last played for Dortmund in a 3-2 loss to Werder Bremen in the DFB-Pokal on 4 February.
