Fantasy Bundesliga tips: Strikers to consider for the 2020/21 season
Here are the strikers you should consider when picking your Fantasy Bundesliga team.
Budget options:
Nicolas Gonzalez is sidelined with an injury, so Sasa Kalajdzic (Stuttgart, 4M) is set to lead the line for newly-promoted VfB Stuttgart when they kick off their Bundesliga campaign against Freiburg at home on Saturday. Stuttgart have a favorable fixture list, and with Gonzalez expected to be out for several weeks, Kalajdzic looks like a reasonable Fantasy signing if you're looking to free up funds elsewhere.
Priced a million higher than Kalajdzic, Cedric Teuchert (Union Berlin, 5M) is another low-price forward to consider if you want to bring in a cheap striker. After spending last season on loan at Hannover 96 in the 2. Bundesliga, racking up six goals and four assists in 23 games, Teuchert has left Schalke 04 permanently to join Union. Following Sebastian Anderson's departure to FC Köln, the 23-year-old should start up front for an Union side with a good opening schedule.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Werder Bremen coach Florian Kohfeldt hinted that Davie Selke (Werder Bremen, 7M) and Josh Sargent (Werder Bremen, 8M) may start upfront together against Hertha BSC, telling reporters that he believes their partnership is 'really exciting'. Niclas Füllkrug is also pushing to for a spot in the line-up, but Sargent should be a certain starter after Kohfeldt said that he 'can't imagine a starting eleven that doesn't include' the U.S. international. Just like Stuttgart and Union, Werder have a nice run of fixtures coming up, so bringing in a striker from 'The Green-Whites' could be a good idea.
Mid-range options:
With Alassane Pléa and Marcus Thuram still struggling for fitness, Patrik Herrmann (Gladbach, 9M) could play as a lone striker against Dortmund on Saturday. The 29-year-old was responsible for six goals and eight assists last season and kicked off the new captain with a brace and an assist in Gladbach's 8-0 victory over FC Oberneuland in the DFB-Pokal last week. Although 'Die Fohlen' don't kick off the season with the easiest of fixtures, Herrmann deserves to be mentioned as he can be of great return for his value.
Having scored 37 goals in 93 games for Augsburg, Alfred Finnbogason (Augsburg, 9M) has certainly proven that he knows where the goal is. The 31-year-old has been unfortunate with injuries in the past, but if he can stay fit, he is definitely a force to be reckoned with. After coming on to score from the penalty spot against MTVE Celle in the DFB-Pokal, the 31-year-old is likely to start against Union Berlin on Saturday. Alternatively, you could bring in his teammate Florian Niederlechner (Augsburg, 10M), who netted 13 times in the Bundesliga last season.
Admittedly, Yussuf Poulsen (RB Leipzig, 11M) isn't the kind of striker, who will finish at the top of the goalscoring charts, although – surprising to some – he actually scored 15 Bundesliga goals in the 2018/19 season. In any case, 11 million isn't a lot for a striker, who is expected to lead the line for RB Leipzig against Mainz at home. And who knows – maybe Poulsen will step up find the net more regularly, now that Timo Werner is no longer there? With that being said, it may be worth spending a million more to get his teammate Hee-Chan Hwang (RB Leipzig, 12M) instead. RB Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann recently waxed lyrical about the 24-year-old, who looked very impressive in his competitive debut against FC Nürnberg, scoring and setting up a goal for Poulsen.
Hertha have high expectations for Matheus Cunha (Hertha BSC, 12M), who impressive in the second half of last season after making the move to the capital from RB Leipzig in January. The Brazilian is a slight doubt for the opener, but should be fit to start in Bremen.
Premium options:
Despite featung just 19 times in the Bundesliga last season due to injury problems, Andrej Kramaric (Hoffenheim, 14M) managed to find the net 12 times. The Croatian striker kicked off the new season with two goals against Chemnitzer in the DFB-Pokal, and if he can stay fit, he will certainly score points for your team.
Patrik Schick (Leverkusen, 14M) might need a bit of time to settle in at Leverkusen, but after impressing at RB Leipzig last season, he's definitely a player to keep an eye on a little further down the road.
André Silva (Frankfurt, 14M) really got things going towards the end of the 2019/20 campaign, hitting the net eight times in his last 10 league games. Kicking off the new season against newly-promoted Arminia Bielefeld at home, he's certainly an intriguing option.
Serge Gnabry (Bayern München, 17M) was a really popular pick last season, but doesn't look as a attractive from a Fantasy perspective, now that he has been moved from midfield to forward on the game. But in any case, after racking up 23 goals and 14 assists in 46 games in all competitions last season, the 25-year-old has proved that he can be a real difference-maker when he's on his game.
Erling Haaland (Dortmund, 17M) hit the ground running after joining Dortmund in January, scoring 13 goals in his first 15 Bundesliga games for BVB. Despite his high price tag, the 20-year-old is really hard to look past this year.
Costing a million more, Robert Lewandowski (Bayern, 18M) is the game's most expensive player – and understandably so. After finding the net 55 times in 47 games in all tournaments last season, the Polish international is a must in every Fantasy Bundesliga team.
