Report: Hertha reignite interest in Julian Weigl

Hertha BSC are once again being linked with Julian Weigl, who reportedly wants to leave Benfica.
Hertha BSC are interested in bringing Julian Weigl back to the Bundesliga, according to Sky Germany.

The German capital club were keen on the 25-year-old before he left Borussia Dortmund to sign for Benfica in January.

After a promising start to life in Portugal, Weigl has slipped down the pecking order and is understood to be looking for an escape route out of Estádio da Luz.

Portuguese publication Record has reported that Weigl would like to leave during the winter transfer window, but Benfica are understood to be demanding at least €20 million for the German midfielder, and Hertha can't afford to pay that price at the moment, as per Sky.

Therefore, a January move to Hertha looks unlikely – at least unless the parties can agree on a loan deal with a possible option to buy.

Weigl, who is currently out of action after testing positive for coronavirus, has made just two starts for Benfica this season.
